A new book on the Rocket is now available through our shop
This book describes the development of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway and the role played by George and Robert Stephenson.
The famous Rainhill trials are covered, with details of the four contestants and (spoiler alert) which locomotive won. Which was of course Rocket.
Rocket is probably 'the other most famous steam locomotive in the world'. Several replicas have been built, one often runs at the National Railway Museum's sites in York and Shildon, but the original has now been moved to the York NRM, having spent many decades in London, far from the town where it was built and the area in which it operated.
